The Antioch Waves depends on parent volunteers to run home meets successfully. No parent is expected to be an expert, but all parents are expected to help during each home meet that your swimmer(s) are participating in.
There will be times when your swimmer is waiting for a while between events. It may be a good idea to bring something your swimmer enjoys to pass the time. Remember to be smart about safely storing your things - Antioch Waves is not responsible for any lost or stolen items.
Bring extra towels and some warm clothes, many times it gets chilly for the swimmers into the evening. Parents should bring their own chairs to meets as there is usually limited seating available. You may want to have a permanent marker packed for your swimmer to write their events on their arm or leg.
Swimmers and spectators should bring water and healthy snacks. It is very important for swimmers to stay hydrated, carbonated drinks and sugary snacks are discouraged.
For all-day events such as conferences, it is important to keep your swimmer out of the sun. Consider bringing a tend or EZ-Up.
Swimmers should know what events they will be swimming, the event number, heat number, and lane they will swim in. This information will be sent out via e-mail before all Meets. It will also be posted at the Meet.
All swimmers must arrive on time and check in. For Home Meets, parents also check in before at the job assignment table.
Warm-ups are prior to the meet starting. Warm-up times will be communicated prior to the meet.
It is important for the swimmer, or parent, to keep track of what event is in progress to avoid missing their event.
If there is a bullpen at the meet, listen for your event number to be called and go to the bullpen promptly. A bullpen manager will let swimmers know when to go to the block area for your event.
